Tournament Guidelines
This event was first held in 1977 to commemorate the 1964 Tokyo Olympics held in Enoshima and to nurture and strengthen the young sailors. Today, the event is recognized as a Grade 2 event by World Sailing, and since 2015, it has been positioned as the Asia Cup by the Asian Sailing Federation. In addition to the participation of Japan's top sailors, sailors from other countries, especially from Asia, are expected to participate in the event, which will provide junior and youth sailors who have few opportunities to meet overseas sailors with more opportunities to gain various experiences. The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Sailing Championships have been held every year since the 1960s.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Sailing Competition was scheduled to be held in Enoshima again (the Olympic Games was postponed to 2021 due to the pandemic of the new coronavirus), and the Sailing World Cup was held in Enoshima in 2018 and 2019 as a prelude to the Olympic Games. The world's top sailors, who joined these events, also participated in this Olympic Week as well. In light of the two Olympic Games and two World Cups, the "Enoshima Olympic Week" is expected to continue to develop as an ever more fulfilling event in the future as a commemorative event.
本大会は、1964年の東京オリンピックヨット競技江の島開催記念と若手選手育成・強化を目的として、1977年第1回が開催された後、1984年に東京オリンピック20周年を記念して海外からの選手も出場できる国際レースとして位置づけられました。今日、ワールドセーリングからはグレード２の大会として認定され、2015年からはアジアセーリング連盟よりアジアカップとしても位置づけられています。国内トップ選手の出場と共に、諸外国、特にアジア各国からの選手の参加が予想され、海外選手と接する機会が少ないジュニア・ユース選手にとって、いろいろな経験を積む機会が増えると同時に国内外トップ選手との交流から次世代に繋がる選手の育成・強化が期待される大会としても開催されてきました。
そして東京2020オリンピックセーリング競技が再度江の島で開催（なお、オリンピックは新型コロナウィルス感染症のパンデミックにより2021年に延期開催）されることが決まり、オリンピック前哨戦をも兼ねて、2018年、2019年にはセーリングワールドカップが江の島で開催され、その出場選手である世界のトップセーラー達がこのオリンピックウィークに参加しました。二度のオリンピックと二度のワールドカップ開催を踏まえ、その記念大会として「江の島オリンピックウィーク」は、これからも益々充実した大会として発展して行くことが期待されています。
